About the lecturer:

Dr. Tan has extensive education and diverse practice, combining Western and Eastern medicine.

  • Education: She holds a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) degree from Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Los Angeles. She also holds undergraduate degrees in Kinesiology with a focus on sports injuries, economics, and psychology. She is a certified practitioner of Chinese astrology and Feng Shui.

  • Career and Practice: She is the co-founder and past co-chair of the BC Sport Acupuncture Association. She was a member of the medical teams at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Games. She has been practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and acupuncture since 2006. She works at Red Tree Wellness Inc.

Dr. Sonia F. Tan is one of the key individuals who carry the legacy and teaching of the Balance Method (also known as Balance System Acupuncture).

  • Teachings and Legacy: She was among the 16 oldest students of Dr. Richard Tan, who were the first to complete his most advanced courses, making her a certified teacher and master of the technique.

  • Academy: She founded her own school, Tan Academy of Balance Inc., where she continues to teach Balance System Acupuncture and other areas of Chinese metaphysics. She also originally created the first certification program for the method at a public college, Langara College, in 2018.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Tan is a renowned author and lecturer. She has written the book "The Foundations of Balance Acupuncture: A Clinical Reference Manual", which serves as a basic guide for students and practitioners. She regularly speaks at international conferences and is a guest in the media, educating and inspiring people in the field of acupuncture and Chinese medicine.

Protection of Intellectual Property and Penalty Provisions

1. Content Protection and Prohibition of Distribution

All seminar content (including, but not limited to, lectures, methodology, know-how, and study materials) is the intellectual property of the organizer or the lecturer and is protected by copyright law.

  • Prohibition of Sharing: Without the prior written consent of the organizer, the participant may not share, copy, publish, or otherwise provide to third parties any video recordings, audio recordings, or photographs taken during the seminar.

  • Personal Use: No recordings of any kind are allowed. Only photos.

2. Prohibition of Unauthorized Instruction (Teaching Activities)

The participant acknowledges that attending the seminar does not entitle them to teach this method further.

  • Exclusivity of Teaching: Training, organizing courses, or otherwise pedagogically passing on the methodology discussed at the seminar is strictly prohibited for all persons who do not hold a direct and valid teaching certification from Dr. Tan.

3. Contractual Penalty

In the event of a breach of any obligation stated in points 1 and 2 of this article (especially regarding the sharing of recordings or unauthorized commencement of teaching), the participant is obliged to pay the organizer a contractual penalty of 500,000 CZK (in words: five hundred thousand Czech koruna) for each individual breach.

  • The organizer’s right to full compensation for damages (exceeding the scope of the contractual penalty) remains unaffected by the payment of the penalty.

4. Consent to Terms

The participant confirms their consent to these rules and their commitment to comply with them by signing the attendance sheet before the start of the seminar. The signature on the attendance sheet is considered confirmation of familiarity with these General Terms and Conditions (GTC) and their full acceptance.

Limitation of liability in case of seminar cancellation

1. Cancellation of the seminar by the organizer

The organizer reserves the right to cancel the seminar, move the date or change the lecturer for serious operational, technical or organizational reasons (e.g. serious illness of the lecturer, force majeure, insufficient number of participants, etc.).

In such a case, the participant has the right to:

  1. Full refund of the participation fee (entrance fee) paid

  2. Possibility of using the paid amount for another seminar date or for another seminar organized by the Organizer.

 

2. Exclusion of compensation for additional costs (damages)

The participant acknowledges and agrees that the Organizer is not responsible for compensating for any other costs and damages incurred by the participant in connection with the cancellation of the seminar.

In particular, the organizer is not obliged to pay:

  • Transportation costs (airfare, tickets, fuel, etc.).

  • Accommodation costs (hotel reservations, hostels, etc.).

  • Meal costs, lost profits or other related expenses.

The participant arranges all transport and accommodation at his/her own risk and is responsible for any cancellation or insurance. The organizer strongly recommends that travel services offer free cancellation or insurance against cancellation fees.
